Ignite by Kaitlyn Davis

Ignite (Midnight Fire #1) by Kaitlyn Davis
YA Paranormal
Rating: 3 Stars

"With one last look, one final search of the lines of his face for some sign, Kira turned and ran away from the sound of the man she loved laughing in the face of her death."
When Kira Dawson moves to South Carolina, she meets Luke, a blond goofball who quickly becomes her best friend, and Tristan, a mysterious bad boy who sends shivers down her spine. Kira knows they're keeping secrets, but when she discovers Tristan's lust for blood and her own dormant mystical powers, Kira is forced to fight for her life and make the heartbreaking decision between the familiar comfort of friendship and the fiery passion of love.

My thoughts: There are good feelings toward this book and bad feelings towards this story. I will first go through the negatives. Did anyone else get a bit of déjà vu when they read this? I sure did. New girl walks into school, the first person she meets is an over eccentric gentleman. In the lunchroom she sits with group of people and notice a group of people who are gorgeous yet mysterious and brooding. I’m not going to say it because I’m pretty sure everyone knows where I am going with this. The point is that there isn’t very much creativity going on here. The characters were a bit bland as well. There were times I couldn’t tell who was talking because there was no voice, I had to go back and reread to figure out who it was. Let’s get to the positive side now. I love the kindle version of the cover. One of my pages on Facebook posted that this book was free so I had to take a look. The cover is what made me look so that is good. That is what you aim for when creating the cover. I also have to say the world that Kaitlyn created is a fantastic idea! I love it! There could have been so much potential for this novel. That is what saddens me. I can see how great this novel could have been. Maybe if I ever get the chance to read the next one in the series it will be better and more original.

Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens

Heavenly (Heavenly #1) by Jennifer Laurens
YA Paranormal
Rating: 3 Stars

I met someone who changed everything. Matthias. My autistic sister's guardian angel. Honest. Inspiring. Funny. Hot. And immortal. That was the problem. What could I do? I did what any other girl would do-I fell in love with him. Zoe's sister darts in front of cars. Her brother's a pothead. Her parents are so overwhelmed; they don't see Zoe lost in her broken life. Zoe escapes the only way she knows how: partying. Matthias, a guardian sent from Heaven, watches over Zoe's autistic sister. After Zoe is convinced he's legit, angel and lost girl come together in a love that changes destiny. But Heaven on Earth can't last forever.

My thoughts: The thing I love the most about this book is you know it’s a fiction but it’s got a bit of non-fiction within it. The amount of knowledge that went to this novel is astounding. Not about the fiction stuff but the real stuff. Autism is a big deal. I knew a child once with autism and I could see how hard things were for the family and how much attention this child needed. Jennifer got that down perfectly in her novel, makes me think she has dealt with autism before. I love that she brought acknowledgement to autism in her paranormal novel. The story was great. Well, most of the story was great. That ending smacked me down a bit. I finished the book while I was on break at work and I just sat there staring at the last page. Talk about cliffhanger! I wasn’t a big fan of the writing though. When you write a main character you want to make her likable, I didn’t really like Zoe all that much. I can understand the feeling that Zoe has towards her sister but some of the choices she made were selfish. She resented her sister for her disease and that is not the kind of thing you want you protagonist to be. I even felt that we could have gotten more Mathias. He is a great character but the whole mysterious while sexy thing gets kind of old. I got kind of annoyed after a bit but the story itself was fantastic, just wish there was positive energy to it.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare
YA Paranormal/Fantasy
Rating: 5 Stars

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

My thoughts: What an amazing book! What an amazing world! Cassandra Clare has created this whole new world and has implanted it right in the middle of ours and has made it believable. The amount of research she had to have done astounds me. The characters were all amazing and I fell in love with them all. Especially Simon, I love the whole best friend who secretly loves you thing. You could say that angle is overused but I think it always makes for a great story. I don’t particularly like the covers all that much. They are beautiful but I just felt there were too much flair and shining lights. The runes were beautiful though. I hated that ending though. I wanted to rip the pages out! What a twist!

Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Redemption (Caster Chronicles #4) by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
YA Fantasy
Rating: 5 Stars

Is death the end . . . or only the beginning? Ethan Wate has spent most of his life longing to escape the stiflingly small Southern town of Gatlin. He never thought he would meet the girl of his dreams, Lena Duchannes, who unveiled a secretive, powerful, and cursed side of Gatlin, hidden in plain sight. And he never could have expected that he would be forced to leave behind everyone and everything he cares about. So when Ethan awakes after the chilling events of the Eighteenth Moon, he has only one goal: to find a way to return to Lena and the ones he loves. Back in Gatlin, Lena is making her own bargains for Ethan's return, vowing to do whatever it takes -- even if that means trusting old enemies or risking the lives of the family and friends Ethan left to protect. Worlds apart, Ethan and Lena must once again work together to rewrite their fate, in this stunning finale to the Beautiful Creatures series.

My thoughts: What a perfect ending to this series. I loved it! I was so depressed at the end of the last book but this book made me feel better. Since Ethan is clearly gone and can’t tell us everything, it was nice to see Lena take on part of the story so we could see exactly what she was going through. This series was amazing, I am totally mad at myself for taking so long to finally read it but I guess it worked out for me. I didn’t have to wait to read the next one, I just had to walk that short distance to my bookshelf. I love it when a book comes together at the end!

Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles #3) by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
YA Fantasy
Rating: 5 Stars

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What — or who — will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?
For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself — forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.
Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

My thoughts: What? What??? I never saw that coming! After reading the synopsis I really couldn’t wait to get back into this story. It’s the end of the world! I am a bit disappointed in Ridley though, she was moving forward but she took that devilish step back. Shame on her! But if you really think about it, would I love her any other way? I have always liked Link but now I love him even more. He seems to be fitting in well as an incubus; he is an even more interesting character than he was before. That is what I call character building! I loved every bit of this novel, possibly my favorite one out of the entire series.
